Are you a older teen looking to develop your leadership skills? Riverdale Y’s “Generation To Generation” youth leadership development internship program is an opportunity to foster meaningful connections across generations, while empowering you to address social impact issues with the support of Riverdale Y’s vibrant older adult community.

Application & Cost
There is no cost to participate or apply. Kosher lunch is provided daily. Participation in the Generatio-To-Generation youth leadership internship program is open only to accepted applicants and space is limited.

Program Overview
Week 1
Building Community and Understanding
- Younger adults participate in daily activities at the senior center
- Engage in conversations with older adults to understand their experiences and the social issues they face
- Begin brainstorming potential social impact projects
- Organize workshops and seminars led by older adults on topics of interest
- Younger adults continue to interact with senior center members, learning from their experiences and wisdom
- Conduct research and gather information relevant to potential social impact projects
Week 2
Lifelong Learning and Growth
Week 3
Creating a Space of Belonging
- Facilitate group discussions and activities aimed at fostering respect and appreciation among participants
- Encourage sharing of personal stories and experiences to build empathy and understanding
- Begin formalizing social impact project ideas with input from both younger and older adults
- Incorporate physical activities, such as group exercises or nature walks, promoting overall well-being
- Host mindfulness sessions or relaxation workshops led by older adults
- Finalize project plans and allocate tasks among participants
Week 4
Nurturing Minds, Bodies, and Spirits
Week 5
Responsibility and Action
- Execute the social impact projects, with younger adults taking the lead and older adults providing guidance and support
- Host a fundraiser if necessary to raise funds for the projects
- Prepare a joint presentation showcasing the projects and their potential impact
- Reflect on the experiences and lessons learned throughout the internship
