The joy of theater has no age limit

Our older adult members of New Beginnings, Center for Contemporary Adults, 60+, showcase their work in June, just like all the other programs here at Riverdale Y.

Yesterday, our chorus hosted a choral show to share all they’ve learned during their 20-week course under the direction of professional opera singer Caprice Corona.

On June 24, many of our members will perform in a sold-out production of One Singular Sensation: A Tribute To A Chorus Line.

On June 26, members of our memoir writing class will read some of their work at a final event under the direction of Instructor Frank Igrasciotta.

Finally, if you have time, take a walk up to the second floor to see artwork from students in Danny Hauben’s painting class. Danny, our resident art instructor for almost thirty years, also leads an art appreciation class at Riverdale Y that matches the caliber of classes in a university setting.

These programs are made possible through sponsorships, including from the Bronx Opera Company, City Council discretionary funds allocated through the support of Councilmember Eric Dinowitz, member contributions, and underwriting from Riverdale Y. This type of collaboration enables us to provide high quality artistic programming that often is unaffordable to Older Adult Centers.

How can you help? Small, one-time or monthly donations from supporters like you help to make sure older adults in our community are able to thrive as they age.

New Beginnings classes are open free of charge to New York City Residents over age 60. Join us and make your life creative.
