In July, our community experienced a heartwarming connection between generations as young adults, ages 14 to 20, came together with our older adult members. Representing a rich tapestry of backgrounds and experiences, these young individuals sought to learn from the wisdom of our senior community members.
Our younger teens, ages 14 to 16, dedicated their efforts to providing over 2,500 meals to older adults. Meanwhile, our older teens delved into the social challenges faced by seniors, including food insecurity. Through a recent survey, they discovered that 20% of our older adult diners face difficulties accessing food. Additionally, they learned that our Yonkers members, no longer supported by the Department for the Aging, depend on Riverdale Y for their Kosher food needs. To continue this essential support, we need to raise $30,000 annually.
In response, our dedicated teens have organized a fundraiser. On August 1, join them in the lobby from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. to purchase cookies, coffee, tea, and lemonade. They will also be at the Sunday Market on August 4, where they will sell generously donated books from the Early Childhood Center.
We are one community, united in our support for each other. As our teens learn and grow, our older adults provide invaluable guidance and support for the programs being developed.
To further our mission and help alleviate the food insecurity faced by our older adults, we invite you to make a donation to the Center for Social Impact. Your contribution will directly support our efforts to provide Kosher food and other essential resources.
