July Volunteering Recap at Riverdale Y

From the Volunteer Director,

Rooted in Action: Teens Building Community in Real Time

While summer winds down, our teen interns are just hitting their stride. Every week, they show up—setting up the Sunday Market, selling cookies and snow cones, sharing stories with older adults, and learning what it means to build community by being a part of one.

This is not a theoretical internship. This is real life. Our teens are listening, helping, laughing, and sometimes struggling—but always growing. They are learning how service is not just about doing—it is about staying, week after week, in spaces that need care.

Inside the Older Adult Center and outside at the market, they are forming relationships that bridge age and background. They are helping this community thrive—one conversation, one shift, one Sunday at a time.

Come say hi. Watch them in action. This is what investment in the next generation looks like.
