A letter from the ECC Yellow Room’s Grandfriend, Barbara:
Good evening and Happy Chanukah!
I have to tell you about my experience in the Yellow Room this past Thursday.
I returned to my Grandfriends after missing 3 days of school over a week and a half due to a trip to visit my in-laws. Several of the children started shouting “Barbara” as soon as I walked into the room. It made me feel really good, especially since I didn’t think the connection among us had had enough time to grow.
Then someone pointed to what looked like a wrapped gift on a side table. I didn’t think anything of it and forgot about it as we went to the Board room for our play date.
When we returned to the room and sat down for snack, they gave me the gift I had seen earlier. It was a menorah made from wood, beautifully painted and decorated. I was so overwhelmed with emotion, I felt tears forming.
This has been so typical of my experience in this room. There is an atmosphere of inclusivity and joy in this room. The respect and camaraderie among the teachers and Miss Lucy and myself feels so good and right. I was welcomed into this room with warmth and enthusiasm from the start.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to spend this year in the yellow room.
Barbara
