December Reflections, January Impact

From the Volunteer Director,

December brought light and joy to our community! From toy and food drives to festive celebrations, the season showcased the warmth and generosity of our spirit, especially through the efforts of our young volunteers.

As we enter the new year, we’re gearing up for Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on January 20. Inspired by Dr. King’s 54-mile Selma to Montgomery march, we’ve embraced the theme of 54—a symbol of chai (life) in Hebrew—throughout our educational, service, and fundraising efforts.

Let’s honor Dr. King’s legacy through action. We are seeking volunteers for:

  • Facilitation Roles: Lead MLK related discussion at the older adult center or with various community groups during the day; partner with kids to sell muffins; give away T-shirts and assist with check ins during the day.
  • Hands-On Roles: Pack meals with Rise Against Hunger or assemble hygiene kits.

To volunteer for facilitation roles, contact me by January 10. Registration for hands-on roles is open until January 19, space permitting.

Together, we can build a stronger, more compassionate community and honor Dr. King’s legacy. Let’s make this January a time of unity and impact!

Warm regards,

Alexandra Nyashina
Director of Volunteer Services
