A Season of Service: Making a Difference TogetherDecember Blog

As the leaves fall and the temperatures drop, the Department of Volunteer Services enters our busiest season—November through January. These months bring an outpouring of community involvement, as families teach their children the value of giving back, high school students earn their community service hours, and people of all ages step up to help during the colder months. It’s a heartwarming time when we all come together to make a difference.

In December, I am focused on planning one of our most impactful events: MLK Day of Service. This year, we have an ambitious goal: raise $54,000 and engage 1,000 community members in service.

The 54 Miles to Impact initiative will run from January 1 to January 20, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s historic 54-mile march between Selma and Montgomery. Dr. King’s message of service and civil rights continues to inspire and remind us of our power to uplift one another.

So, mark your calendars! In January, we will come together to make a real difference. Whether you volunteer at one of our events, take steps toward our 54-mile goal, and donate, every action counts. Let’s honor Dr. King’s legacy by showing the strength of our collective spirit.

I can’t wait to see what we accomplish together!
