Early Childhood Camp (ages 2-5)

Our Camp Community
Warmth, energy, love and fun are the emotions that can be felt as campers, staff and families walk through the Y. Children enjoy the vibrancy of a community center atmosphere, coupled with the intimacy of caring, professional staff and dedicated space, indoor and out, for our Early Childhood Campers.
Instructional swim, an outdoor playdeck, indoor air-conditioned gym with early childhood equipment, and so much more await your young child at the Riverdale Y's camp.
Our staff and children share an enthusiasm for being in camp and for being together. Our camp community is contagious and will make a positive and lasting impression on your child!
The Early Childhood Camp provides a nurturing and enriching program, each designed to meet the needs of your child.

Lunch Bunch
Half day campers have the option to extend their day from 12 – 1:00 PM
Monday, Wednesday and Friday only
Lunchtime is a time for sharing, socializing and community. This year, campers who are enrolled in a half-day program have the opportunity to share lunch together. Campers bring a non-meat, non-shellfish lunch on Lunch Bunch Days and counselors will facilitate a family-style dining experience which will enhance campers’ summertime fun. Families will be notified about special cook-out days, in which “Lunch Bunchers” will also participate.  Add’l fee.

Welcoming New Families
All new camp families must schedule an introductory meeting between the camper and camp administration. Registration is not complete until this meeting has been held.
Kids’ Corner: Extend your child’s day ...
Kids Corner is an after-care program for three and four year old children enrolled in the Ys Early Childhood Camp. The program provides activities for children based on the natural rhythms that children feel during late afternoon hours. Our safe and developmentally appropriate activities are staffed by early childhood professionals and aides who understand the needs of children. Flexibility with registration hours and days help to provide coverage for both working families and those who would like just a few hours of extra childcare coverage. Contact Joan Tananbaum at ext. 221 for registration details.
After Camp:
Extend your camp season by another week ... enroll your child in our Early Childhood Mini-Camp:
August 17-21, 9am-1pm & 9am-6pm

This minicamp program for children ages 3-5 provides a program where campers will learn various sports skills through exercises and games. Coaches emphasize the importance of building self-esteem, confidence and coordination in a dynamic and fun filled environment designed for athletes of all skill level and ability.

Minicamp is a unique balance of camp favorites like instructional swim, playground and group time in addition to the specialty program of sports or arts.

Facilities
Early Childhood camp is held in the fully-equipped air-conditioned early childhood classrooms at the Y and makes use of the Y's other facilities, including an indoor heated pool, outdoor state-of-the-art playground, safety-surfaced sundeck, shaded tent areas, and sports and ball fields at PS 81.

Transportation

Transportation within Riverdale is available to Early Childhood Campers.  Children travel to and from camp on an Exec-You-Van mini bus, equipped with seatbelts.  A camp counselor will accompany the children on the bus. Camp transportation fees are outlined in the camp brochure.

Enrollment Confirmation
The registration process is complete when families receive a camper enrollment packet. This packet will discuss some of the enrollment procedures and guidelines and include the medical and other forms needed prior to the beginning of summer camp.

Early Childhood Toilet Training
Since our program is based upon developmentally appropriate practice, and includes a daily swim session, full-day campers must be toilet trained prior to beginning camp.  Children enrolled in half-day program should supply swim diapers for use in the pool.
